Numerology, like Astrology, is the study of periodicity. The analysis of numerological and astrological periodicities together glean a powerful picture of patterns that occur unique to each one of us in a lifetime. Particular to numerology, the periodicity of nine is very significant and is at the forefront of forming numerological cycles. Like septimal periodicity, nine has a sacred composition. For instance, nine multiplied by any number will always reduce back to itself. Whilst there are many, this one characteristic of nine is indicative of its sacred nature.
In this article I am going to describe the difference between a Universal Year and a Personal Year and then show you how to calculate your Personal Nine Year Cycles that will occur for you during your lifetime.
Universal and Personal Year Cycles
Every nine years begins a new nine year cycle that can universally and personally influence us. In this article I am discussing two types of nine year cycle, the Universal Nine Year cycle and the Personal Nine Year cycle, different in the way that they are calculated and interpreted. The Universal Year cycle applies to all of us collectively, whereas the Personal Year cycle relates to our unique nine year cycle as calculated by our birthdate and the year in question.
Universal Nine Year Cycle
A Universal Year is calculated by adding the four digits of the current calendar year and reducing them to a single digit. Using our current calendar year as an example, we’re currently in a Universal Four Year which impacts all of us commonly. 2020 is a Universal Four Year because it reduces to 4 (i.e., 2020: 2 + 0 + 2 + 0 = 4). A Universal Four Year brings the energy of structure, work, responsibility, and time management. It is synchronistic that during this Universal Four Year, Capricorn energy pervades with three rare and major conjunctions between Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter occurring in the practical and responsibility oriented constellation of Capricorn. A discussion of the symbolic connections between Capricorn, Saturn, the number seven, and the number four will be saved for a later article.
Personal Nine Year Cycle
A Personal Year is calculated by adding your birth month, birth day, and the current calendar year and reducing that to a single digit. The calculation of the series of your Personal Nine Year Cycles will be demonstrated later in the article. This will provide you a table of your Personal Nine Year Cycles ongoing for the duration of your lifetime. Creating a personalized table of your Personal Nine Year cycle is helpful when comparing this timeline with astrological transits. I want to share these calculations with you so that you can find your own personal nine year cycle and be aware of where you are energetically each year. Every Personal Year energy varies depending on where you are in that cycle. I believe it’s important to know where you are. Knowing where you are in the numerological energy pattern can assist you in understanding certain events that take place, prepares you for energetic possibilities for the year ahead, prepares you for upcoming challenges, and can empower you to engage life to its full potential.
Calculating Personal Nine Year Cycles
If we were to work out your Personal Nine Year Cycles and evaluate them against your transits, there will be synchronicities unique to you. It is very helpful to overlap numerology, astrology, and tarot to glean a more enveloping understanding of your life cycles. This equips you to handle the changing seasons of your life with grace and you benefit by getting the most reward from the cycle. I want to demonstrate how to calculate your Personal Year Cycles. Of course, everyone's calculation will vary depending on the unique numbers calculated from the birth data.
Example: Using April 2, 1978
This person was born in a Universal Seven Year (i.e., 1978 = 1 + 9 + 7 + 8 = 25 reduces to 7). This is an interesting fact, but this isn’t what I am looking for right now. I want to find the Life Path number because it is how I’m going to calculate the Personal Year Cycles given this birth data. The Life Path number is calculated by adding the birth month, birth day, and the birth year and reducing it to a single digit. The Life Path number for the above given birth data calculates to a Life Path Four because this person was born on April, 2nd during the year of 1978 (i.e., 4/2/1978 = 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 8 = 31 reduces to 4).
The Life Path Number
The Life Path Number (aka the Destiny Number) is very significant because it is the genesis of your personal energetic within your unique nine year cycles. In other words, it is where you begin your life journey within your Personal Nine Year Cycles determined by your birthday. As discussed at the very beginning of the article, to calculate your current Personal Year number, you add your birth month, birth day, with the current calendar year and then reduce the numbers to a single digit. The Life Path number is calculated a little bit differently. The Life Path Number is calculated by adding your birth month, birth day, with the year you were born. The calendar year of your birth is powerfully significant because it initiates your personal nine year cycles.
Important Note
A person can be born in between a personal nine year cycle, just as one can die in between a personal nine year cycle. For example, the birth data given above began a personal nine year cycle in the middle of the cycle at a Four Personal Year. The person didn't begin their life journey, or wasn’t born, at the One Personal Year which would have been in 1975. The person was born in the middle of the cycle in 1978 during their Personal Four Year, making them a Life Path Four.
For example, if the birth data was hypothetically changed to April 2nd, 1975, the person would have been born as a Life Path number One, which would have been at the beginning of their nine year cycle (i.e., 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 +5 = 28 reduces to 1).
Let’s look at another example. If that person were born on April 2nd, 1977 instead of 1978, that person would have been born a Life Path Three (i.e., 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 7 = 30 reduces to 3). If that person were born in 1981, they would have been born with a Life Path number Seven and would have had only two more years to complete their nine year cycle.
Let’s continue with the explanation of calculation. Once you have completed step 1, having found the Life Path number (i.e., 4/2/1978 = 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 8 = 31 reduces to 4), you need to determine what year the initial nine year cycle ends by subtracting the Life Path Number by nine (i.e., 9 - 4 = 5) and then adding that difference to the birth year (i.e., 1978 + 5 = 1983).
By adding the difference to the birth year, the result is the year that ends the initial nine year cycle. The result is 1983 (i.e., 1978 + 5 = 1983). If we do the arithmetic, the Personal Year number in 1983 should be nine (i.e., 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 +8 + 3 = 27 reduces to 9). It indeed works out.
The calculation shows us that the nine year cycle will end in 1983 when the person is five years old. Another way of putting it is saying there are five more years left until the end of the nine year cycle which began in 1978. The first nine year cycle begins in 1978 and ends in 1983 (0 years to 5 years old).
We can check to see that 1983 will indeed end the cycle as it calculates to the person’s Personal Nine Year (i.e., 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 3 = 27 which reduces to 9!).
Now, the beginning of a new nine year cycle will calculate to a One Personal Year and will be the year following 1983. As such, the Personal Year number in 1984 should be one (i.e., 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 28 which reduces to 1).
In other words, you want to find what year the next nine year cycle begins. This is simply the year following the Personal Nine Year, 1983. So, the next nine year cycle begins in 1984. You can check to make sure the year does indeed calculate to the Personal Year One (i.e., 4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 28 = 2 + 8 = 10 reduces to 1). Of course, it does.
Once you do this, you can calculate the rest of the cycle from birth until death. This method of calculation is the same for everyone.
Now that you have learned the Life Path number and have calculated the ending and beginning of the initial nine year cycle by year, we can formulate the rest of the Personal Year Cycles by finding the years corresponding with the Personal Nine Year (the closing years of the nine year cycle) and the Personal One Year (the initiating year of the nine year cycle) from birth until the end of the life cycle. There are two important things to note from the Table of the Personal Year Cycles for 4/2/1978. First, because the person began in the middle of the initial nine year cycle, they only have six calendar years within the first series from 1978 to 1983. The year 1978 is the Personal Four Year and 1983 is the Personal Nine Year which demarcates the first series of the personal nine year cycle. The full cycle, which the person was born in the middle of, is between 1975 through 1983.
Second, the year 1975 would hypothetically be a Personal One Year for them had they been born in 1975. They were born in 1978 in the middle of their nine year cycle. I want to know what Universal Year will initiate this person's nine year cycle(s). To do that I will look at the hypothetical Personal One Year (1975) and reduce it to find the Universal Year calculation unique to this person's proceeding Personal One Year pattern.
For example, the Universal Year, 1975 for this example, reduces to a Universal Four Year (22/4) (i.e., 1 + 9 + 7 + 5 = 22 reduces to 4). As such, every proceeding Universal Four Year will initiate this person’s Personal One Year, beginning a new series of a nine year cycle. For example, if we add the digits of every calendar year that begins this person’s new nine year cycle, the Personal One Year, those digits will add to a Universal Four Year. Remember, a Universal Year is calculated by adding the four digits of the current calendar year and reducing them to a single digit.
This pattern holds true for the years that calculate this person’s Personal Nine Year as well. As such, every calendar year that ends this person's nine year cycle will add up to a Universal Three Year (i.e., 1983 = 1 + 9 + 8 + 3 = 21 reduces to 3). In the example case, the year 1975 is the Universal Four Year and corresponds to the first Initiatory Year, Personal One Year. The year 1983 is a Universal Three Year and corresponds to the first Closing Year, Personal Nine Year. For each one of us, a unique cyclic pattern of nine year cycles occurs based on varying birth date calculations.
